That is the entire reason testing is required on a schedule rather than once at installation. A device that passed three years ago can fail today without any outward sign.

What if it fails? The assembly is repaired or replaced and then retested. Many failures are a worn seal or spring rather than the whole device, so ask for the specific finding before agreeing to a full replacement.
